Causes of Neuropathic Pain



Common causes of Neuropathic pain

Diabetes Mellitus : Pain may be spontaneous, continuous , or intermittent and is frequently worst at night. Often described such pain as stabbing, burning, tingling, prickly, hot, cold , or itchy.

Post-herpetic neuralgia : Pain persisting 3 months after the onset of rash is typically used to define post-herpetic neurgalia.

Complex Regional Pain Syndrome : Chronic neuropathic pain following injury to soft tissues, bone, or nerve. Persistence pain out of proportion to the original injury.
Fibromyalgia : Chronic widespread musculoskeletal pain, stiffness, and tenderness to palpation at specific tender points. The underlying etiology involves abnormal central sensory processing pain.

Compression Neuropathies
: Occur as a result of a reduction of the perineural space necessary for normal function. Tissue pressure increases on the nerve and blood vessels resulting in neural ischemia.


Neuropathy due to infection
: Lyme disease, HIV/ADS
